Pharmaceuticals

The pharmaceutical market accounts for about 21 % of the overall European tube deliveries. The share of this market segment has remained more or less stable over the last few years.

Despite ongoing health care reforms in Europe, which might also affect the packaging market, prospects for this market segment are rather stable. With increasing incomes in Eastern European and some of the major Asian and South American countries demand for health care products is likely to rise. Also tubes will benefit from this trend because they offer optimum product protection, a hygienic and economical application of sensitive ingredients, sophisticated tamper evidence systems and efficient protection against product piracy.

The overwhelming share of pharmaceutical products is filled in aluminium tubes due to their excellent barrier properties. Nevertheless, some less sensitive pharmaceutical products are also packed in plastic or laminate tubes.
