The tube is an eco-friendly form of packaging. Aluminium tubes can be infinitely recycled without any loss in quality and 95 per cent of the energy stored in the metal is retained. Some 75 per cent of the aluminium that has ever been produced is still in the material loop today. Demand for recycled aluminium has exceeded supply for years and makes it a valuable resource.
Plastic and laminate tubes are also recycled, either for use in other plastic products or incinerated with recovery of the energy. With the exception of the pharma sector and for some cosmetic products, stand-up tubes have rendered most shipping boxes superfluous. And it has even been possible to considerably reduce the amount of material used for the tubes themselves: technical advances have allowed wall thicknesses to be reduced. And this materials saving is achieved without impairing product safety or barrier properties.
Tubes weigh very little, are unbreakable, and can be transported easily in a space-saving manner. This saves energy. The resealability of the tube coupled with the fact that it can be emptied completely contributes to products having a long storage life and helps consumers use valuable ingredients and resources responsibly.
